Plan 2 – The Hunger Games by Lauren Moore
I.
Standards and Objectives
A. A.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.3a Engage and orient the reader by setting out a
problem, situation, or observation and its significance, establishing one or
multiple point(s) of view, and introducing a narrator and/or characters; create
a smooth progression of experiences or events.
B. A.
Reading Standards for Literature # 3: Analyze how complex characters (e.g.,
those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a
text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the
theme.
II.
Procedures
A. Students
will already have completed reading the novel “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne
Collins.
B. Split
students into 6 groups to work together to complete the assignment. 2 minutes
C. Each
group will receive a different character to embody (Cato, Gale, Peeta, Rue,
President Snow, Haymitch) 1 minute
D. Groups
will work together to write a short synopsis of the book, focusing on the type
of conflict (different types of conflict is a topic that we will have already covered
in class) that their character faces, from their character’s perspective, including
3 key scenes. (20 minutes)
E. Groups
will perform their scenes for the class. This can continue during next class
meeting time if time runs out. (20 minutes or until end of period)

Assessment and Evaluation
A. A.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.3aStudents will be evaluated on this by how accurately
and creatively they are able to embody the assigned character when writing plot
synopsis.
B. A.
Reading Standards for Literature # 3. Students will be evaluated on this by
their display of mastery over the concept of different types of conflict
displayed when they act out their synopsis.
